Big Belly

What Noah and Mommy have in common:

At the end of the day our clothes become a little too restrictive for our bellies. The other day at my inlaws' house, I had to walk around with a blanket wrapped around my midsection to cover up the fact that my pants couldn't be zipped. What little shreds of fashion/self-respect I have left I abandon on most days (Although I made the preference for comfort over style a long long time ago). I think it's true, you do start to get fatter sooner with baby #2. Anyway, it's nice to have someone like Noah around who has the same problem (even if on some days I purposely dress him in shirts two sizes too small) and who loves me big belly and all. Instead of posting a picture of my growing belly, I'll just let you use your imagination. Noah looks cuter with his chub than I do anyway :)

Noah gets a brother

Last week we had our big moment of truth ultrasound. My dreams of Noah having a little brother are coming true.

Here's more pictures, one of his cute little alien fetus face and his even cuter little baby feet.

We were so excited to see our baby. Except for Noah, he cried like crazy through the whole ultrasound. Oh well he'll get used to him. 5 more months to get ready for the little guy.

We Moved

A couple weeks ago we decided to start looking for new living arrangements, and within a couple days we found a little house just outside of St. George. It is in Ivins, which is the home of the Tuacahn theater. It is so beautiful there, and much more rural than St. George, which I love being from Beaver Dam and all. My favorite part is the city ordinance prohibiting street lights, so you get some nice views of the night sky. We have finally got all settled in there. Noah loves exploring his new territory. Here are some pictures.

(no pictures of our bedroom, it is still very full of boxes. And I didn't get any of the living room either for some reason. And I thought I could pull up pictures of the outside from craigs list but apparently they have been removed. So you will have to come see for yourself to get the full effect.)

Noah's Favorite Things

*Playing with the hairdryer. While Mommy is getting ready, Noah gets in the bathroom drawer and pulls out the hairdryer. He then drags it around the house waving the hairdryer at people in his path while making the hairdryer noise "Chhhhhh".

*Saying hi to the baby. When someone says "Say hi to the baby," Noah goes up to Mommy's belly and blows raspberries or gives kisses. This has been a nice distraction technique since we've been weaning. When he is thirsty and comes to Mom for milk, we quickly tell him to say hi to the baby, and instantly he forgets his original objective.

*Running from the law. He usually uses his little waddle to get from one place to the next, but sometimes he picks up the pace. Usually it is in this scenario: Mommy and Daddy are in the den preoccupied with something other than Noah. He sees it as an opportunity to get into trouble. So he "sneaks" out of the room, to do one of two things: play with the decorations in the front room that are off limits, or crawl upstairs where he thinks he can roam free unsupervised. When we notice that he is attempting to escape our supervision, one of us gets off the couch to bring him back. Usually he is watching over his shoulder for us, and when he sees us coming after him, he laughs and breaks into his high speed run, which kind of resembles that powerwalk that women sometimes do to lose weight. It is very entertaining, so sometimes I let him escape just so I can see his little run.

*Brushing his teeth. When he sees Mommy or Daddy doing it, he demands with grunts until he gets his toothbrush and proceeds to wander around the house with his toothbrush sticking out of his mouth.

*Sweeping the floor. His birthday gift that has been the most frequently used: a little 3$ plastic broom from Grandma. It was hilarious how his eyes lit up when he saw his broom for the very first time. After every meal, we wipe down Noah and the highchair (and he likes to wash his highchair tray all by himself), and then Noah goes to the pantry to get his broom. He sweeps around his highchair and wherever else he sees the need. I think he might have inherited the Campbell cleanliness gene. We will certainly put that to good use in the years to come.

*Coloring. We constantly have crayons scattered all over the floor, and when Noah gets an artistic urge, he grabs one and his special notebook and goes to town. When he couldn't find his notebook, instead he used one of my cookbooks as his drawing pad. Probably in a year from now I won't react with the same enthusiasm, but for some reason when I saw all those scribbles in my cookbook, I felt very proud. His scribbles are so beautiful.

*Toy Circuit training. When it's playtime, Noah runs on an internal 60 second timer. Every minute or so he drops what he's doing and wanders to another toy and plays like crazy with that one until he moves on to the next one. He completes his toy circuit in about fifteen or twenty minutes, and then it's up to Mommy to entertain him. We are just lucky Grammy has so many toys here for Noah to play with.

*Kissing. He is so good at kissing people and things, especially cute little girls and his stuffed toy dogs. But he also is up for kissing his reflection and outside water spigots when he is feeling generous with his besos.

Noah is so much fun. It is amazing how babies just seem to get more and more fun all the time. Who knows what they will figure out next.

Noah loves That Lady

My mom came to visit from Kentucky last week in honor of Noah's birthday. Even though Noah doesn't get to see her as often as we'd all like, he warmed up to her fast. She showered him with attention and, can you blame him, he loved every minute. She fed him most of his meals, changed diapers (even gross ones), went on a shopping spree, made a Halloween costume, catered a birthday party, and played like there was no tomorrow. In the middle of all that, we spent a lot of time trying to come up with a good grandmotherly name she could go by. Since Noah is the first grandchild of hopefully many to come, what he calls her is setting a precedent for generations. One of our favorite ideas was "that lady". We had so much fun with that lady and we were sad to see her go. Thanks for a good time, Grandma or whatever-your-name-is.

Halloween

The King

We went to Kyle's school for Halloween. Kids from the community came in costume and trick-or-treated around the school. Noah was the hit and I'm not just saying that because I am his mother. He won a prize for his costume later at a Halloween carnival. I was so proud because my mom and I made it (and no sewing required, thanks to the glue gun). But of course the child inside the costume was what really made the costume. He was walking around singing into the microphone and working the crowds at the high school, making all the girls swoon.

(If you look closely you can see his chest hair.)

He had to stop and read his guitar book (he actually picked this one off of the shelf) to brush up on his chords.
All of the festivities really wore him out.

The aftermath. I was paranoid about using the spray hair dye so we brainstormed alternatives, like chocolate frosting, eye shadow, and pudding. At the last minute I went with mascara, because we ran out of time to implement any of our ideas. It ended up being the perfect dye. It didn't rub off on anything and it washed out easily. It was fun to see Noah with black hair, but I missed my little blond baby. This picture is actually the aftermath on day 2 (we tried the black canned hair spray dye stuff because I used up all my mascara on him the first time). It was a mess, the bath water was black and it left a ring around the tub. So if you ever need to dye a blondie, I say go with the mascara.

Noah had a back-up costume if the homemade Elvis one didn't turn out. It would have been cute too, except that I don't think he would have been happy for very long, he got pretty hysterical after a couple of minutes of wearing that big thing on his head. But here is what we would have seen if he was King of the Jungle instead of the King.

Practicing

Noah is practicing being a big brother. He kept picking up rocks and putting them in the stroller and pushing his rock babies around.

Looks like he will have another 6 months until he gets his real chance. Then we will hopefully have something more babylike than a rock. Consider this our official announcement of Baby #2!

Hopefully by May 5 he will get all this strollerdumping out of his system.

California

Noah had so much fun on our weekend trip to California. The Morgans were nice enough to share their house with us--we miss living next door to them! The girls and Noah were all so cute together. He is getting to the age where he loves being around other kids. He followed the girls around all weekend, and we got some good pictures of them all.

Noah, Tayler, Kennedy, and Haylie

Noah loves brushing his teeth with his little baby toothbrush. He wanted to give Kennedy the same pleasure, so he was kind enough to share. (He isn't always a toy stealer, Brooke, he has his nice baby moments too:) )

(Sorry about the scandalous bathtub picture, but they are all still practically babies, so I think it's ok...)

We had a little Halloween/Noah birthday party while we were down there. We loved seeing old friends and family that we don't get to visit often enough. Thanks to everyone who came! We didn't get a picture of everyone and everything, sadly, but here are a few pictures so you get the idea.

dating like married people do

When you have kids it seems like all your attention goes to them, so I have to slow down sometimes to remember that husbands deserve attention too:) That's why I loved our anniversary this year, because sometimes it's nice to feel less motherly and more wifey. This is a picture of him serenading me on our anniversary, the same song he sang for me a few times back in the single, babyless days. I know I look kind of weird but my facial expression is saying "Aww Isn't he sweet?" Kyle remembered that I love flowers and he sent me a pretty wildflower bouquet. We even got out of the house to see Les Miserables in the Tuacahn (amazing). We also got massages (in the mall for a dollar in one of those massage chairs, very classy). Pretty hot date, but at the end we were still in a hurry to get back home to our baby.

baby gavin

We went up north last weekend to see my grandma in Rigby. We had just enough time on the way up to stop and drop in for Jane's big birthday party and then to visit the new baby in the Campbell family. Gavin seems like such a good baby. Shelley and Derek are doing well settling into parenthood and their new home. But how could you not be doing well with a sweet little thing like this?

Noah loves cousin Gavin already. He gave him kisses without hurting him, so that's a good thing. I had fun holding a newborn again--I forgot how tiny and cuddly they are! Babies are so lovable. We are happy to have another Campbell in the family.

three success stories

1. Our house is like the Bermuda Triangle for pacifiers. Which is a problem since Noah needs one for a peaceful sleep. I was ecstatic when a made a discovery on Monday. I was in our closet, looking in a big storage bin for a purse to take on my anniversary date. My purse wasn't there, but there were...four pacifiers. It was like I hit the jackpot. It makes sense to me now why Noah has been getting all fussy when he was playing in the closet with the bin. I thought he was just smashing his fingers in the bin but the real problem must have been that when he threw his pacifiers down in there he couldn't get them out. Well, maybe the smashed fingers also hurt.

2. I was stupid enough to download some music from a really random website and ignore the threats from my computer warning me of the possibility of a malicious download. So immediately my computer started freaking out with some scary virus response lab thing coming up telling me I was infected by 20 different very dangerous viruses. But I did some online research on my inlaw's computer and by followed some directions, I removed the virus and saved the day.

3. I got a job. Part-time 15 hours a week at a child photography place. My secret dream which some of you already know is to be a national geographic photographer. This might be a stretch, considering I am a pretty crappy photographer and I have no photography training. So I'll try my hand in a photography studio with their fancy equipment and we'll see if I can make my photography dreams come true. Plus a little extra money never hurt anything. Well except for maybe my relationship with little Noah. It is hard to leave him. I counted up the hours I'd be working each week, and each month, and then multiplied that by 3 (for 3 months). Then I subtracted the number of hours Noah sleeps during the time I work, and I came up with about 120 hours. Which is only 6 days for the rest of the year, and that sounds doable. I don't know how full time moms do it, or dads for that matter. But because of my job, I have been cherishing my Noah time more than ever, so all in all, it isn't a bad deal.

Our Warrior

On Wednesday night, some cheerleader girls came over and hung this banner on the house in honor of our very own Warrior. Kurt is a football player for Snow Canyon, and he has had a good season so far. We love to go to Kurt's games and cheer on our favorite Warrior. Sometimes Noah isn't always up for the games (or should I say I am not always up for chasing him around at the games). But when we go, we have the best time.

(wearing our Snow Canyon colors)

My favorite Snow Canyon football moment was when I was standing up with Noah next to the end zone, and right in front of my face I watched some Warrior catch a pass and then run for a touchdown. I was thinking "wow, whoever that guy is must be feeling good right now." and then I heard the announcer say "Touchdown pass to Kurt Campbell #84!" (I'm a little slow sometimes, but I get it eventually.) We are so proud of Kurt!

Zion the beautiful

Somehow we managed to make it through almost a year in St. George without making the trip to Zion National Park. Last week our friends the Dansies called us up and told us that Saturday was free day at the park (apparently that was the annual National Park Day and all National Parks offer free passes to celebrate). We couldn't pass up the free offer so we made the trip. We had a little caravan going with the Dansies. The drive up was beautiful, and so was the park. We didn't do a hard-core hike, because babies and husbands were involved. So we took a stroller trail, which was pleasant.

Along the way something happened to Noah's eye and it was bloodshot and watery and swollen. You can get a better look in our family photo.

But besides looking kind of hideous, he was in good spirits. Especially when we let him play in the muddy river. Then we got some smiles out of him. Maybe the muddy river had some healing powers because after rubbing it all over himself and letting it sit for the ride home, his eye was good as new.

Zion is a beautiful place and if anyone comes to visit St. George, we will take you! And if you are lucky we will push you in a stroller the whole time like the babies so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.

Snow Canyon vs Cedar City

We drove up to Cedar City for the high school football game. Noah enjoyed his time there even with his runny nose (zoom in to the last picture for a closer look) and his dirty diaper. After we left, I realized I forgot to pack diapers (I am still getting used to the whole mother thing), and naturally, as soon as we got to the game, Noah filled his diaper to the brim. So we left the game in search of fresh diapers, I ended up forgetting my wallet, so all I had was a check (which is apparently no good without a driver's license) and $1.06 in change. We found a Walmart with a 1$ diaper kit machine in the bathroom, and then Noah was as good as new. The second half of the game was good, especially because SC won and there were the fireworks. Here are some pictures of Noah watching the game with Daddy.

Touchdown!
