We are getting all worked up for our big Kentucky trip. I'm excited about the idea, but I probably won't be able to completely relax until our plane touches down on that side of the Mississippi. There's just something a little daunting about traveling alone with 2 children. And so, please please please, if you know anything about flying with toddlers and/or how to keep them happy and quiet, pass those secrets along. Keep in mind, my boys are 2.5 and 1 (both in diapers), our flight is 4 hours long, their typical bedtime will be somewhere in the middle of all that, and I have no problem using sugar to my advantage.

I believe you will have to entice a nice, helpful little old lady to sit by you. Look for one wearing protective eyeware...
You are the best person anywhere to attempt this!
There are some excited people in KY... we love you all.
Buy a fun toy or book, something new and special just for the trip.
Bring special plane-only candy and snacks.
Prepare for the worst, think that the worst will happen and it will turn out to be better then you thought.
Do you have a portable DVD player? You might want to get one if your boys like movies.
Do you have double stroller? You need one of those.
Is your baby still nursing? That was always my go to happiness with a baby, on a plane, at bedtime.
Talk to the boys about the trip and how important it is to help mom and be good. Talk abou the other people on the plane and how we want to be kind to everyone else. I am a big fan of talking about everything even if they seem to small to understand.
Reward them on the other side.
Pray.
You can do it!!
(It is not as daunting as it seems. Honestly the worst part for me was security. But then again my two oldest were very young (18 months and 3 months) when we traveled alone and it was only to Utah. Four hours on a plane is much longer then one.)
Oh, yes, you have to get the coolest most awesome snacks and candies available. You need a DVD player for Noah. I have had both good and bad plane rides. And both ways you end up getting there. Just be prepared not to care what other people think and just keep telling yourself no matter what happens it will be over in 4 hours.
I don't have a dvd player. Instead I pack activities bags, one activity per bag. I use the biggest size freezer ziplock bags that have a zipper on them so things stay organized. And sitting by a nice grandma definitely helps. I like to do premade art projects. By that I mean I'll cut a bunch of things already and then the kids will glue them or assemble them as needed. We do a magnet fishing game with songs written on them (like you do in primary) to sing. We get lunchables because they are the most special and fun lunch and pbj's always smoosh. And we ask for lids for our drinks with straws and no ice. Minimizes spills.
We take lots of walks up and down the aisle and try our best not to worry what other people think, because surely no matter how hard you try someone will look at you funny.
